My Mission: Ensuring City Cats Thrive

Stadskatten was founded on the belief that urban living should never compromise a cat’s happiness. Living in a bustling city like Amsterdam brings specific challenges, from limited square footage and high stimulation to restricted outdoor access. I am dedicated to bridging the gap between your cat’s natural instincts and the reality of city living by sharing expert insights on behaviour and recommending cat-friendly products that fit beautifully within a modern apartment.

Beyond creating the ideal home environment, I provide professional support for resolving behavioural issues such as house soiling, anxiety, or aggression. My mission is to create a harmonious home where both you and your feline friend can thrive together, ensuring that your cat remains fit and happy.

Creating a Stimulating Life for Your Indoor Cat

For indoor cats, occasional outdoor cats, free range cats and their owners.

Stadskatten supports all cats and their owners, whether they are strictly indoor residents, occasional garden explorers, or free-roaming adventurers. Cats that live primarily indoors require a specialized daily routine to stay healthy and happy. In the wild, cats spend their days stalking, hunting, and interacting with their environment. When a cat lives indoors with a bowl of food always available, that natural drive for "action" often disappears, leading to boredom and a buildup of suppressed energy.

Without sufficient mental and physical outlets, the risk of behavioural issues increases significantly. While a cat does not necessarily need to go outside to be happy, it is essential for owners to think carefully about how to organize "cat behaviour" within the home. Being a cat is about more than just purring and cuddling, it’s about the fundamental need to hunt, scratch, run, and climb. These behaviours can be challenging to manage in a compact city apartment, but they are vital for a feline's well-being. I provide the tools and insights to help you integrate these natural needs into your living space, ensuring a balanced and joyful life for both you and your cat.

About me

My parents had four cats first, and then I came along. Cyperse Veer would lie in my cradle, I was allowed to put little hats on Haas and Pam while Noor and Mop watched. Then Alexandra and Muisje joined the family, and Flus traveled with us all the way from Spain. The white cat Witje found it a bit too crowded at our house and moved in with the neighbors; at one point, my parents had seven cats and one child.

Now, over 30 years later, I have two cats of my own and have noticed that keeping cats in the city is very different from the village where I grew up. There, cats were always outside, but in Amsterdam, that is often not an option. Stadskatten was born from the professional knowledge I gained during my Cat Behaviour Therapy studies at the Tinley Academy. As a certified Cat Behaviourist and an accredited member of the SPPD, I combine this scientific foundation with my own lifelong experience of living with cats in the city and, of course, a great deal of love for the animal.
